I have been fighting depression for years now. The last few months have been particularly hard for me.

:iconcarameldansenplz: :icondoublehugplz: :iconflowerdanceplz: :iconpounceglompplz: :iconpyrodanceplz: :iconspinplz: :iconraindanceplz:

I hope I do not annoy anyone but the emoticons do seem to help a little

:iconcarameldansenplz: :icondoublehugplz: :iconflowerdanceplz: :iconpounceglompplz: :iconpyrodanceplz: :iconspinplz: :iconraindanceplz:

My little friend Boo figured this out. I mean what do you say too a first grader when her horse puts its head in the car window and kisses you as the cheery voice behind the head asked. “Are you okay. You seem so very *%$!:@& sad. I know you are trying to *%$!:@& hide it but I do not think you are really *%$!:@& Okay.” (Wasabi the killer horse kisses rough, he is all tongue… rough tongue)

After reminding her about her language I told her the reader’s digest version of the truth.

Boo’s response was to show up with the next day with a cheap set of water colors and a pad card stock. We used up the cheap set the first day.

I had to admit to her that as many things as I have done over the years, I have never worked with water colors ever before. I think it surprised her that there was something I did not know.

A couple of days later I got a call from Boo’s Mom. After comparing notes we realized that we had to stop Boo from dipping into her college fund to buy me a Cannon EOS-1Ds Mark III with several lens. She had enough money but it would have almost wiped out her savings.

I mean How do you explain too a first grader that her college is more important. She kept telling her mom that she did not need the money right now.

What she did get me for Christmas was a better set of watercolors a book on beginner watercolors and 50 sheets of water color paper. (She wanted me to open it right now!!!!)

What you have been seeing post has been my struggle to learn how to use the silly things.

And my own frist feeble attempts at water color

*bear48 :iconbear48:

I am really floundering in the dark and I would welcome serious critique, advice, or just thoughts of this work.

I have been very sick today so about all I am doing is spending a lot of time in the bathroom and playing on DA

I would like to thank everyone for their on going support through hard times

I am still looking for help getting a boar spear

I need to find some help to make a boar spear and shield for Barbarana. I am afraid I do not have a lot of money and the quotes I have gotten so far in this work have been most outrageous. What I want needs to be a bit rough like a post apocalyptic barbarian survivor made it.

Thank you for the feature :glomp:

Watercolor is really fun. I am relatively new to it myself, but mistressofspam is a great teacher and we've spent a fair amount of time painting together. We both use colored pencils as well for detailing and refining, so I recommend trying it out :D

I hope things look up for you soon

If you can get it, I recommend using Crescent Illustration Board 200 to paint on. It is thick enough that you don't have to worry about it warping like with regular watercolor paper, but still get the same look. Misstressofspam also uses it.
If you would like further tips on what we do let me know

lol Hopefully I can explain to well enough...

When you get the board, you'll also need white artists tape (can be found in most art stores). Find a clip board or something solid (that is not too heavy) larger than your painting board to tape it to so you can turn it as you work to more easily reach the different sides of your painting. Use the tape to fasten the two together around the edge. I usually have about a 1/4" around my painting that is white were the tape was while I was painting (you will be removing it when you are done). All this helps to keep your board from warping at all no matter how much water you end up using (sometimes it is quite a lot too ;) ).

I plan to make a tutorial about all this in the how to draw mermaids book I am working on, so when it's done I'll have photos to help demonstrate the technique. Hopefully this is enough to at least lead you in the right direction for now.

Please feel free to ask questions if you have any :D

Hang in there bear :) ....That Boo sounds like a real treasure !...
Certainly a character like that must help dispell the blues....;)

All any art media takes is passion and practice and style development :)
